Lapis has been mined for over 6,000 years in the Badakshan province of Afghanistan where the finest quality if still found. This stone has had a variety of uses throughout history. Cleopatra used it in powdered form as eyeshadow and painters utilized the beautifully intense pigment in tempera and oil paint until the 19th Century. It is believed that lapis can relieve stress, bringing the wearer inner peace.
